Blogging Experience

Let's talk about this project and blogging. The pros and cons, perhaps?
Project:
Pros: Was able to learn about interesting people and their art. Very interesting information that I learned.
Cons: Wanted to research an artist rather than an art piece.
Blogging:
Pros: No
Cons: Well, first of all, the word sounds like a synonym for throwing up. Does it need any more explanation?

Final Blog: For the Project and For Life

1. What was the most challenging aspect of this unit? Explain.
2. What worked well for you in the research project? What helped you learn?
3. What didn't work well for you in this research project? What would have made the project better?
4. Critique the overall human for in art research project. Should this project be taught in ninth grade Humanities English? Why or why not?

1. The most challenging aspect of this assignment was to research and find information on all of the paintings I had to compare and contrast to. It wasn't that hard because I would just look up Van Gogh and it would give me a little information on how he did his paintings.
2. What worked well for me was the fact that I enjoyed the painting I researched so I really got into it.
3. What didn't work for me was that I would've had less trouble researching an actual artist more than his/her paintings. It was irritating to look for all of the information on a painting alone.
4. The overall project was ok. I enjoyed doing the PowerPoint and learning about the artist and their paintings, but if you were to teach this project next year, the blog aspect has got to go. I found no point in doing this at all, whatsoever.

Powerpoint part

So...... the PowerPoint has begun it's construction. The background will consist of many different paintings by Van Gogh, but the first few will be the one I'm focusing on: Skull With a Burning Cigarette. For the slides without the main painting, I will compare them to it to teach people about Van Gogh and what his style is. I want to either present on Monday or Tuesday. Thanks!

Comparisons and Contrast...isons

The painting was created in a February, while he had been very overworked and ill, maybe because of his excessive smoking. It was a self-portrait, depicted himself as a dead man. He felt like he was dead while in his state of sickness.

The painting was created in a city called Antwerp, where he moved to in November of 1885. He had rented a small room where he devoted his time to paint more. With little money that he had received from his brother, he spent it on painting materials instead of food. Becoming more and more sick from lack of nutrition (his staple foods being bread, coffee and tobacco). In a letter he had written to his brother before he began his painting, he told him that he'd only had six hot meals since the previous May.

Comparing and Contrasting: A Starry Night
In May of 1889, Van Gogh moved, once again, out of Arles, France and into Saint-Rémy, where he checked in to a mental hospital, which formerly had been a monastery.
I'm obviously not finished yet, but I will do this and my powerpoint this weekend.
Stay tuned for more about the original painting...

Vincent Van Gogh's: Skull With a Burning Cigarette

Skull With a Burning Cigarette is a painting by Vincent Van Gogh. He began on the painting in 1885 and finished in 1886. It is an oil on canvas painting.

Vincent Van Gogh's paintings hardly ever had people in them except for a few.

I know I need more. I'm getting there....
